  Associate a Layout with a Device for an Item

Layouts can be associated with Devices on individual Items by manipulating the Layout Section of the Item, but in general it’s best for Items to inherit layout settings from the associated Template.  To associate a Layout with a Device for an Item or a Template:

  1. Log in to the Sitecore Desktop on a development server as a user with appropriate permissions.
  2. If the Layout is to be applied to a Device for all Items based on a given Template, open that Template in Template Manager; otherwise open the Item for which that Layout is to be Processed in Content Editor.
  3. In the Layout Section, associate a Device with the Layout using the “No Layout Specified” link.
  4. Changes made to Templates which are inherited to Items will not be visible in the published environment until a full publication has been performed.
